Our Legal Counsel product is designed for companies with regular legal requirements who are looking for consistency in advice across a range of areas together with total cost certainty. Our Legal Counsel customers tend to be companies who are considering recruiting their first in-house lawyer or those who have a small in-house legal function but are looking to focus that resource on business-critical activity, whilst working with us to source the remainder of their requirements on a fixed price basis with a single point of contact.
For customers without in-house lawyers we provide a “virtual General Counsel” as a principal contact, responsible for delivery across the full-range of each customer’s requirements, whether through our Wirral-based legal team or via Riverview Barristers. In all cases we set out a clearly defined service scope, bespoke to each customer, within which all advice is delivered for a fixed annual fee. The Riverview Law virtual GC is responsible for providing fixed price quotes for any out of scope activities and for managing delivery, giving our customers complete assurance that their matters are being carefully overseen by a dedicated team.
Our Legal Counsel customers benefit from fixed pricing for their day to day legal requirements combined with a consistent point of contact responsible for ensuring the quality of service delivery for both in and out of scope activity – all the benefits of an in-house team at a significantly lower cost and with access to a full-range of legal specialisations.
What is Legal Counsel?
Legal Counsel is aimed at mid-sized businesses who either have no in-house legal team or who have a small over-stretched team. Under a fixed priced annual contract we provide day-to-day legal services as required. Every Legal Counsel contract is bespoke to the customer and we appoint a named lawyer to lead the relationship with each customer. This allows us to provide consistent, high quality and relevant legal support. A typical contract is wide ranging covering most-day-to-day legal needs of the customer.
How do we scope Legal Counsel contracts?
The key to scoping and pricing Legal Counsel contracts is a thorough understanding of our customers’ businesses; their structures, relationships and transactions. This requires some time but we are investing in long-term relationships and we feel it is crucial to tailor our products to our customers’ requirements. This is why we work with customers to complete our Legal Counsel Analyser which captures the real requirements of the client. Post completion we are able to submit a fixed priced proposal plus the CV of the lawyer who will be the prime point of contact for the client for the duration of the contract.
Cometh the hour
Post lunch with a senior partner in a law firm, the Finance Director of a large corporation turns the conversation to the pricing of a big legal project she is about to start. She wants a fixed price for the work. The ensuing discussion is ‘interesting’ and entertaining…
A different view on law
We think it's time for a different view on law. One that can help your business, instead of hindering it. A service that understands your needs and makes sure everything revolves around them. We think it's time you had more control, more access to information, more expertise and less confusion. This is about breaking away from the traditional way of delivering legal services.
Our Moments of Truth programme
You can have the best people, processes and systems in the world but the key is the culture underpinning this. Our culture is driven by Moments of Truth, a concept that is easy to understand both internally and externally and by all other Riverview Law stakeholders. Moments of Truth ensures that we all have responsibility for making sure that our customers, team members and other stakeholders are delighted every time they interact with us.
